Ascent

  As my body signals it’s time to return to the surface, I glance over and see my friend’s movements gently disrupt the mesmerizing formation of the Akule. The baitball begins to break apart, their shimmering bodies scattering as light from above filters through the surface once more.

What was once an encapsulating dance now transforms into an image of freedom—light and water weaving together as we begin our ascent. With each kick, the surface gets closer, and the anticipation of that first fresh breath brings a quiet gratitude for the world below.
